Plein Air on the Yellowstone
What a wonderful week we had at Livingston, Montana when we joined some twenty other artists to paint in Paradise Valley, culminating with a Wet Paint Sale at the Livingston Center for Art and Culture and a well attended reception. It was an exciting week because of the beautiful landscapes and also because of the thunderstorms and a plethora of weather conditions befitting plein air activities. The lightening came mighty close at times, especially when we were on the mountain tops!
Local artist and patrons were most hospitable to those of us that traveled into the area and A's Bed and Breakfast was superb serving the best breakfasts in the West, (waffles, french toast, fruit, bacon, etc) Those folks are truly the nicest and great representatives of the friendly residents in Livingston.
The Historical Ebert House was a wonderful setting for painting old buildings or haystacks, courtesy of the owner. Many artists descended on the ranch and survived the 90 degree heat in the afternoon. Teresa Garland Warner, www.teresagarlandwarner.com did a wonderful painting of the restored house while I painted haystacks and the flower garden.

Standing near the "At the Yellowstone- Sacajawea and Poppy" monument (sculptor Mary Michael), I painted the reflecting pond within the hour and a half. Lots of folks came by and chatted. Teresa Garland Warner won people's choice for her painting on the Levy with a beautiful mountain backdrop.
We met artists Shirl Ireland, Gardiner, MT, Steve Spencer from Idaho, Karen Thiel and Bob Newhall from the Livingston area to drop just a few names. Go to www.livingstoncenter.org to meet the artists.
One of our days was devoted to sightseeing and picture taking in Yellowstone Park. It was awesome. We'd like to go back in the winter if we are brave enough.
More Excitement Coming Up!

Art Show & Sale at the 320 Ranch
Hello Art Lovers,
"Tempus Fugit,"especially when we are having fun and painting out. The Gallatin Valley was so beautiful in July and our one day show July 19 was well attended by locals and tourists from the area. We always enjoy the tasty Pig Roast put on by the Ranch and are happy to see the great turnout for that evening.
For our schedule next year, we will probably be looking at the weekend after the 4th of July. I have met some nice folks in the Gallatin Gateway over the past few years and some have my art in their homes. Next year maybe the group will do a few days of plein air painting prior to the show.
By the way, another artist (Margaret Graziano) and I spent the evening before the show with a wonderful couple in Big Sky. The beautiful views and fabulous Italian cooking were second only to the warm welcome and royal treatment we received from our host and hostess. Thank you again for a most memorable evening.

Hello All,
Starting July 1, I have two works in the 2010 Juried Pastel Society of the Northern Rockies Exhibition at Brown's Gallery, 1022 Main St, Boise, Idaho. "Just a Little Bit of Light" and "Bright Sunny Day" will be in the Show and Sale until July 30. It was fun doing soft pastel work on Wallis paper again and I've done a number of smaller pastels following that I recently put in the index for your enjoyment. Hope you enjoy my new works.

Great To See All at the Hamilton Show
July greetings to everyone. It was really good to see so many of you again at the MPAA Show in Hamilton, MT. It was an exciting reception too, with over 500 folks attending during the Friday evening event. There were great snacks and sales were OK as well.
It was especially nice to be showing next door to Mary Ann Cherry. Her work in soft pastels and oils is awesome and she is really a "hoot". She is one busy artist with all her shows, plus she teaches all over the West. My hat is off to you and your art. We talked about a plein air weekend in the Tetons. That would be great fun with Mary Ann and a few other artists.
WORKSHOP WITH AARON SCHUERR
June 21 started a great week with Artist Aaron Schuerr. We all came home with lots of notes and value studies and a desire to paint more outdoors. Aaron makes it look easy, especially at his evening plein air demo on Sunrise Road near Pine Creek. It was a beautiful little painting with the mountains in the back drop and the Yellowstone River meandering through. The whole setting, 360 degrees was just awesome. There were a few equine students eager to help, though they may have obstructed Aaron's view.
Thanks Aaron, I am trying to make my paint brush and color mixing perform at the level you suggested.

Current Show News - Opening European Show in Hamilton
Four Friends Paint Europe
The four artist show opened Friday, April 9 at the Art Focus Fine Art and Framing in Hamilton, Montana. It was a great crowd (about two hundred) and we were happy to share our European adventures with so many interested folks. Bob Neaves had photography and oils, Mari Bolen exhibited sketches of architecture in France and Michele Kapor and I presented plein air scenes from France and Italy. It was a fun evening!
Some of the paintings and sketches found new homes but the show will be on view through May First Friday, ending on May 10, 2010.
Thanks to all for coming and so nice talking with you.
